Mar 5:  Dr. Stephen McClatchie, Mount Allison University
Mahler's Wagner
Dr. McClatchie discusses Gustav Mahler as a renowned conductor of Richard Wagner's music dramas. He proposes that during Mahler's decade in Vienna, the tension inherent in the Jew Mahler's model performances of the German Wagner resulted in a clash of aesthetic, philosophical, and political forces that ultimately led to his resignation as Director of the Court Opera.  Dr. McClatchie is a musicologist specializing in Mahler, Wagner, and Austro-German music and culture, 1840-1945. Professor of Music at Mount Allison University, he is currently that school's Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Research.
